Selectively colorized black and whites are an interesting way to emphasize certains aspects of an image. They are created as a composite Photoshop file of a colored image with its black and white rendition. A layer mask is then created to allow some of the color to come through. See page 2 and page 3 of black and whites.

Winter impressions shows a sequence of motion blur abstract photos of the Knik Arm during winter sunrise (with snow covered lakes of Eagle River Flats in the foreground and the Susitna Valley in the background).

I am trying my hand at black and white conversions from some of my color landscapes. Only certain images lend themselves to a good conversion - mainly those with good contrast, many tones, and clouds and sky.

Fall foliage colors are amazing, but they can be overwhelming to the senses. Rather than try to capture this feeling with a still photo, I think intentionally creating motion -- what are called creative blurs by some -- better captures autumn impressions. It makes for some beautiful impressionist images. I think you will agree.
